Who we are

Teammates Kait Boyle and Kurt Refsnider are professional ultra-endurance and mountain bikers with a passion for backcountry trails. They each hold FKTs on a number of long, self-supported, mountain bike routes and have bikepacked extensively around the world in search of inspiring backcountry riding. Together, they are the co-founders of Bikepacking Roots, the only national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to bikepacking, bikepackers, and the landscapes through which we ride. Ultimately, both athletes find backcountry trails to be a source of incredible inspiration, place for personal challenge and growth, and connection to place and community; they have created the BBC to share this gift with others.

Kait Boyle

Kait lives in Victor, Idaho but her heart is torn between rocky mountain trails and the desert southwest singletrack. She holds FKTs in the Arizona Trail 300, the Kokopelli Trail, and the Coconino Loop 250, and is a 24 Hour Solo World Champion.

Kurt Refsnider

Kurt calls Prescott, Arizona home base, but he is most at home on the rockiest trails he can find. He holds FKTs in the Arizona Trail 750 and 300, the Kokopeli Trail, the Grand Loop, and the Coconino Loop 250. He is also the first rookie to win the overall title at Alaska’s Iditarod Trail Invitational winter ultra and the only person to win each of the Triple Crown of Bikepacking events (Tour Divide, the Arizona Trail Race, and the Colorado Trail Race).
